Poor Sperm Quality

Acupuncture has been explored as a potential treatment for male infertility, particularly in improving sperm quality and overall reproductive health. While initial studies offer promising results, the body of research remains limited, and conclusions are not yet definitive. This review looks at existing studies on acupuncture's effects on sperm characteristics, including motility, concentration, and quality, and evaluates the strength of the evidence supporting its use.

Jerng's 2014 systematic review of 4 randomized controlled trials found that acupuncture improved the percentage of sperm with rapid progression and sperm motility. No adverse events were reported. Over the years, several small trials have shown promising results regarding acupuncture's ability to enhance various sperm characteristics. A 2015 systematic review, which analyzed 12 studies with a total of 2,177 patients, found that acupuncture was superior to medication, or even more effective when combined with it, in improving sperm concentration, quality, and response rates.
