Spasticity

Acupuncture or electroacupuncture (EA) has been shown to significantly reduce spasticity following a stroke (Lim 2015 – SR & MA of 5 RCTs). Additionally, acupuncture has been found to enhance passive resistance to stretching, decrease personal dependence, and improve motor function (Rodriguez-Mansilla 2016 – SR of 9 RCTs or controlled studies).

Rehabilitation

A Cochrane update by Yang in 2016 indicated that acupuncture has beneficial effects on improving dependency, overall neurological function, and specific neurological impairments.
